#991: Taking sides

Okay, I know that parents really shouldn’t encourage children to take sides. Still . . .

When your child sides with you during an argument with your spouse, it makes you feel pretty good. Even if it isn’t a real argument, just having your child constantly back you up in your opinion—”I like what you like, Mama”—is great. Who doesn’t want a cheerleader on their side during a tug-of-war?

Besides, it lets you know that if you and your spouse reach old age and if there’s enough money left to give just one of you the deluxe package at the old-age home, you’ll be the lucky one.
