Just finished watching the much-anticipated vice presidential debate tonight on NBC (okay, I admit that I chose NBC because I was hoping for a guest appearance by the real Sarah Palin, Tina Fey).
And I have to say, I’m really annoyed that quite a few of the commentators seemed to think that Palin “killed” or “won” the debate. Mainly because she didn’t satisfy us with any major gaffes and goof-ups as she has in previous public appearances. So if previously, you generally came off as a know-nothing, and now you don’t make a fool of yourself, then you’re considered a winner? Here’s a victory for middle-of-the-road mediocrity and the ability to reach for nothing more than bland, rehearsed lines.
Oh yeah, the other things that annoyed me about tonight’s debate? How often Palin avoided answering the questions, and her gosh-darn folksy way of talking. (Holy smokes, Tina Fey got it dead-on all along, including the wink to the camera!) I’ll be nightmaring tonight about all the “you betchas”, “well gees” and especially her “call-out” to her brother and his third-grade class.
And that’s about all the grey matter I want to devote to Palin tonight. Looking forward to this Saturday’s SNL!
